The entire US is built on conquered land and manifest destiny was the
name of the game for many generations of early Americans. Which is
fine, that's all major powers to some degree. But the US also
overthrows unfriendly governments and replaces them with more manageable
governments all the time. Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, etc., while using
covert ops to try to overthrow govs in Venezuela and Iran. Meanwhile we
create and support "friendly" governments like Israel. Pretending that
the US isn't one of the biggest players of this game is silly. The
fact that the US didn't play the African colonies game has more to do
with the fact that the US became a power of that extent in the 20th
century, by which point that game was over. The US actually tried to get
into that game in the Philippines before saying fuck it.
I agree with the previous poster. We love the US because it is
ours and provides us with a good QOL and freedom, not because it is
somehow the most moral. It isn't but I don't really care and you
shouldn't either. But if it stops being free and ours and providing us
with a good QOL then it will be time to leave.

The US didn't merely "fight wars to exist." The US fought wars
for expansion, for power, for influence, for resources, etc. Same as
all the other great powers. Yes, that's how you become a great power
but there's no need to pretend that the US was somehow different here
just because we never got into African colonialism (except for Liberia,
now that I think about it).

may be misunderstanding me. I'm not saying the "US has a shameful
history." I'm saying the very mindset of "perfect history" vs.
"shameful history" is silly mental slavery. You don't have to shoehorn
history into "good" and "bad" boxes. History is history. Every great
power has a history of conquest, colonies, etc. Great moments and not
so great moments. Give me a country and I'll happily tell you the bad
things they did at some point to someone.
What makes a country worthwhile isn't that they have a perfect
history, but the freedoms and QOL they afford their citizens and the
sense of belonging that those citizens feel to that nation-state. This
is where the US is failing (no one really feels American anymore,
freedoms are falling away, future generations are probably going to live
worse than prior ones, etc.). Not because of an imperfect history, as
though a perfect history exists anywhere. Ask any Russian if they think
Russia has a "perfect" history and they'll laugh. It doesn't mean they
don't love their country or their people. Replace Russia with China or
Poland or Israel or whatever and it'll be the same story. I
deliberately excluded western countries because this particular disease
is afflicting Western Civ. But your entire game here actually plays
into the lib mindset.

if I feel particularly bad for the Japanese either. They invaded China
as part of their expansionist policies (they already conquered Korea
and a significant part of Manchuria), the US realized that was not a
great situation so we backed the Chinese, the Japanese attacked us
because they figured we were pussies and wouldn't really fight them and
they lost that bet. We nuked them to force a surrender with minimal
costs to us and also to send a warning to the USSR, which was already
grabbing Japanese territories and obviously thinking about grabbing more
in Europe and maybe the ME. Overall, the US came out looking good but
it was also a case of the US doing what was in its best interests
throughout.

like ~80% of deaths, overwhelmingly civilians. The u.s., britain, and
soviet union were allies in that they were all attacked by german /
japanese aggression. (again soviets were collaborators so they gunk
stuff up). The ruthless efficiency of the concentration camps and the
behavior of the japanese army (mass genocide, sexual enslavement etc)
was a stark contrast to the behavior of the western democracies...
If you're just throwing the soviet union like a hot potato on
the ally side and saying "lol none of that applies" you're being
disingenuous - any halfway sober analysis of the war will produce far
more clear moral boundaries than in most wars, which was all his point

is not the same thing as close to surrendering.... And the various
methods to bring that about were not all equally efficient.
They were finding dudes in the jungles into the 60s and 70s

than some special moral fortitude that's both uniquely american and
non-european...
I.e. America's true might and influence came of age in a postwar
world where that way of doing business was no longer acceptable - for a
variety of reasons but probably most significantly the change in global

millions of lives were sacrificed fighting against Japanese imperialism

by the way, other Euro nations didn't get out of the colonial game
because of morality - they just couldn't afford it. It was horribly
expensive and the costs exceeded the benefits. So they "gave the
countries independence." But they still got what they really wanted
(the resources, for example) by offering "foreign aid" in exchange for
their companies retaining access to the resources, which is what they
really want.

central american country (eg high up in central banks, her and her
siblings have top u.s. educations and have worked for the world bank /
IMF etc) - and the corruption and dynamics in the foreign aid programs
are just straight up a more sophisticated version of "colonial governor"
mechanics w/ native networks. e.g. following the policies we want,
allowing corporations access to labor / resources etc. Interestingly -
the corruption ensures that the incentives are correctly aligned between
the two parties, America distributing aid, and the administrators
receiving the aid who set policies, grant corporations access to cheap

US is the greatest country on earth but a handful of others are
probably actually better to live in as an average person. I would much
rather be an average person in the Netherlands or Norway than the US.
But if you aspire to more and are willing to take risks there are things
possible here that are not possible almost anywhere else. Elon Musk or
any number of countless anonymous success stories are almost impossible
in any of the counties that are better for the average person.

As many in this thread have already pointed out, there are quite a few
first world countries where life is better for ordinary middle and
working class people. I have family in France, Germany, and Italy and
can attest to that. Some of them live in rural places with no real
industry or commerce but still enjoy a quality of life that is easily on
par with or better than the American middle class. Their equivalents in
the US live in rural shitholds that the US has long abandoned.
Abandoning entire communities is a US trademark not typical of other
first word countries.
2. The US is a more benevolent power than past empires. I do think the US catches more shit than it deserves in this regard.
3. American style capitalism (boot-straps and the American Dream
(TM)) may have worked fairly well in the past but it’s failing in the
face of a modern economy that exacerbates the income and wealth
inequality problem that is inherent in the system. Young people are far
less patriotic and more likely to embrace alternative ideologies as it
becomes more obvious that they will, in the aggregate, be worse off than
prior generations.

better are dumb. They are 5 million people, oil rich, and entirely
homogeneous.
And Germany and France and most of Europe have much stricter
immigration requirements so they don't have the same level of poor to
begin with.
Then you have other countries like Japan that don't even allow
immigration in the first place much less from poor people, and others
like Australia where it's also difficult to immigrate.
The US is basically open borders, or was before 6 months ago,
and the people who come here are poor. Even legal immigration is chain
migration, not that of Canada or other euro countries based on merit.
OP is right but it's not even a fair comparison to begin with,
because the other countries dont take the truly poor to begin with, and
we do, in enormous, demographically changing, legal and illegal,
numbers.
