this whole conflict has been extremely bad in terms of ability to get accurate information. a lot of stuff has been wrong/fake/propaganda so far. even official government statements from various nations have contained claims which turned out to be wrong.it's probably too early to tell what the fuck is actually happening. a big red flag will be what happens around the two-week mark (march 9), since a lot of pre-war estimates had ukraine holding out for a couple of weeks before making major concessions or being outright defeated.

'pro-russian' sources are not a good source of war predictions because they tend to be overly-optimistic. i'm looking at pre-war assessments from somewhat more dispassionate/neutral sources. one of the common comparisons was with the US invasion of iraq, which began on march 19th, 2003 and largely ended with the fall of baghdad on april 9. that's a more realistic timescale for the takeover of a larger country with a large military and landmass.

i doubt it. the US doesn't release its actual internal war-game/strategic assessments. a country like the US has a strong incentive to say that if russia doesn't do X by time Y, then it has 'failed.' but there's no reason to adopt that particular timescale unless it is supported by other elements like history (similar wars) or objective facts.we kind of saw the same thing with the russian war with georgia in 2008. john mccain even said that the russians were being 'driven back' and that 'we are all georgians now.' but a few days later, georgia outright surrendered.
