Courses. I actually came to a crossroads before quitting trying to be an academic on whether to teach or become a lawyer. It looked like I would have to get an education degree to teach in public schools and that was going to take like another year and a half. Law school was three years and promised more money so.Don't want to go back to school and private schools are hard to get jobs at.

I think you can take most of the required coursework online. Not an MFE but I didn't get the sense that private school jobs are hard to get. Probably because they typically pay significantly lower than public school gigs. I bailed on teaching after a year in an urban school.

It's meaningless credentialism. I was in an alternative certification program. Nearly all the courses I had to take were completely useless. Probably the only useful part of a degree is getting field experience as a student teacher. You'd have some mentorship and ease into teaching and managing disciplinary issues. I dunno, man. If you hate being a lawyer that much, might be something to think about. Maybe you can start in a private school and work on your credentials at the same time.

I got canned in January for similar reasons (small firm with financial issues; zero training or development for 3.5 years; plus I got super sick for a few weeks which affected performance). Lined up a couple of interviews immediately after; COVID hit, and I was fucked.Bright side is that my two recent leads right now (no interviews yet, but informal email/phone calls with hiring manager/firm department chair) would get me back home (currently 1000 miles away from family).

For some reason I thought you were a PD. You could always become a PD in New York or Northern New Jersey. But I agree with what you’re thinking with regard to teaching. I used to teach in a Catholic high school in Washington Heights And it was the happiest time in my life.That school closed though.
You and I have talked about the current status of the jesuits, but the remaining good ones are in high schools. Maybe look at St. Peter’s prep?

i do pd and will continue to do so. it's a service the firm provides to the town and it's my primary thing. so basically im continuing to work while i land on my feet. it's very kind of them.did you teach at...mc? if so, i have a ton of great memories there since my hs gf was an mc'er.
