im not interested in the 'philosophy' of possible worlds, if that meant to allude to the many worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics.

and in any case, i do not think there are possible many worlds. there is only one, indivisible, material universe.

but to say that this universe is the only, if even real, form of true, underlying reality is probably wrong.

elements isn't philosophy. it's pure geometry. probably the best math book ever written. same thing with newton. newton has a little philosophy regarding instantaneous acceleration and xeno's paradox but, again, the best calc book. you could use the elements as a textbook but not the principia. however a prof named densmore wrote a sort-of textbook that goes through principia which is great.

if you like math try descarte's geometry which is amazing.

best 10 or so phil works:

plato's republic, meno

aristotle's physics, metaphysics

kant's critique of pure reason

hegel's phenomenology of spirit

descartes' meditations

hobbes' leviathan

leibniz's discourse on metaphysics, the monadology

spinoza's ethics

wittgenstein's tractatus logico-philosophicus

wittgnestein renounced his thinking in his later years. the vienna circle is just a bunch of nihilistic positivists, working to deny the existence of a soul.

otherwise, good choices.

also, differentiating between philosophy and math in the time of when all thinking wasnt separated as it is now is kind of wrong and dogmatic. newton thought he was doing natural philosophy, and by extension, trying to understand god.

i would also add your moniker, the prince, as one the best political philosophy works with leviathan, locke's second treatise on government and rousseau's social contract.

his thinking led to analytic philosophy and the death of philosophy in its incarnation as philosophy of science.

as it is now, philosophy is meant to mean clear thinking, instead of its original intention to understand observed reality.

horrible man.

wittengstein was only dicking around and trying to find the truth. he was misguided, frege was doing it out of spite to god's will.

Read the baby books first. Read philo for idiots and comic books on philo. Get the basic ideas. You can hit the originals after that but honestly the stuff gets dated after awhile, as science progresses.

I think philosophers the best modern ones are coming up w new paradigms to approach the problems already identified. It’s less about knowing the terms and terminology of old works than it is knowing the tools generally. Also make use of the internet and instructions available on YouTube.

This is 100 percent my self informed perspective and I’m sure I will be ridiculed on here by the hard hitters but I’m comfortable w it.
